Who doesn’t love a gin and tonic? It’s an absolute classic and a firm favourite tipple for many. This blog will talk about all things gin, tonic and garnishes so you can perfect your ultimate G&T.

The Gin

There are so many gins on the market now, thanks to an increase in popularity, that it can make choosing the right gin a challenge. Here are a few things to consider when choosing a gin:

  • What aromatics and botanicals have been used in the gin will determine the flavour and notes you can taste when drinking the gin. At Bohemian Brands we use citrus fruits and aromatics for our gin giving it a fresh flavour. If you are after a fruity gin look for berries and floral notes.
  • Think about what you are going to use your gin for. If you are going to be drinking the gin with tonic, you may want to opt for a gin with a stronger flavour profile. If you are going to be using gin as a base for cocktails, then you will want to opt for a gin that is light and has a neutral flavour profile.
  • Decide whether you are going to purchase a gin from a large or small distiller. Our gin is small batch distilled to ensure premium quality.

The Tonic

If you really want to create the perfect gin and tonic, then of course tonic is also an important component. No longer just a mixer, tonic can add additional flavour and taste notes to your gin. We recommend opting for a high quality, premium tonic to ensure the tonic doesn’t impact your gin’s flavour. Just like gin there are lots of flavoured tonics on the market, for example a couple of popular tonic flavours include elderflower and cucumber to compliment the botanicals and aromatics used in gin. Taking time to choose a premium tonic to compliment your gin is a great way to ensure the best gin and tonic experience.

The Garnish

Gone are the days of just popping ice and a slice of lemon into your gin and tonic, now there are a wide range of garnishes used to add something extra to your gin and tonic. Not only do garnishes look great, choosing the right garnish can enhance the flavour of the gin. Here are just a few garnish options:

  • Citrus fruit (lemon, lime, orange and grapefruit) works perfectly for gins with citrus notes. If you are drinking Bohemian Brands’ Gin then we recommend opting for a twirl of peel or thin slice of citrus fruit.
  • Berries are a great garnish for fruity gins as an added bonus, you can enjoy the gin infused berries as a little snack!
  • Rosemary is perhaps a garnish forgotten about but pairs well with juniper. It is important to use your rosemary garnish sparingly as it is quite a strong flavour.

Now you’ve perfected your gin and tonic, you can sit back, relax and enjoy your hard work!
